The Work of TCDF: Hope and Future for Children like Lev

In the heart of Thailand, the Thai Child Development Foundation (TCDF) is dedicated to children with special needs, like Lev. Lev, a young woman with Down syndrome, wandered through her village for years without anyone understanding her. Her mother didn’t know any better and had no idea that a future was possible for Lev.

When Lev enrolled at the TCDF school, her life began to change. She flourished and found her place in the vocational training program for young adults. Today, Lev makes her own tea, shampoo, and soap from locally grown herbs. She even roasts coffee beans that she planted with her friends. For her work, Lev receives a fair wage, and thanks to TCDF, she can stay in her own village.

Just like Lev, all children deserve a future, and they can't do it alone. TCDF has already helped 98 children towards a better life by teaching them valuable skills in entrepreneurship and agriculture. In this way, TCDF is building a future where children like Lev are not only helped but can also be proud of what they achieve. Every child deserves a chance – and TCDF makes that possible.

Cycling in Cambodia: Culture, Nature, and Adventure on Two Wheels

Cycling in Cambodia? Absolutely! Not just a ride through the city, but an unforgettable bike tour along ancient temples, breathtaking rivers, and picturesque villages where time seems to stand still. Our adventure begins at the Mekong River, where we cross the border from Laos into Cambodia. For me, this is a new area to explore, and the Mekong offers some special highlights we’d like to take the time to enjoy.

One of these highlights is the quiet town of Kratie, known as the place to spot the rare Irrawaddy dolphins. We also cycle past Kampong Cham, a historic city with beautiful colonial buildings. Here, we find the famous bamboo bridge, which is rebuilt every year during the dry season when the river’s water level is low enough.

Siem Reap is a familiar place to me, especially thanks to the impressive Angkor Wat complex. Years ago, Mieke and I spent a few days in this city, exploring the nearby temples. Now, on our bikes, we have the freedom to discover this beautiful place at our own pace, without the crowds, tourist buses, or pushy guides – just us and the magic of the moment.

Battambang also brings back fond memories. Although our bike route doesn’t take us directly through this city, we hope to find time for a visit. Battambang is a stunning city in western Cambodia, surrounded by rice fields, with a lively market and many old, atmospheric houses. The cultural richness of this place is a treat for any traveler, and it would be wonderful to relive these memories.

Cambodia has always enchanted me: it’s a beautiful country with friendly people, delicious food, and so much to rediscover each time. This time, Dries and I are cycling for Bike4Kids, aiming to create a better future for children in need. That way, we hit two birds with one stone – or rather, two wheels! It’s time to pump up our tires and embark on the adventure. Will you ride a bit with us? You can also join by making a financial contribution!

Preparations and Sponsorship: Kilometer by Kilometer Towards a Better

FutureWith just five weeks left until my departure to Hanoi, I’ve already logged 6,900 training kilometers. By sponsoring €5 per kilometer, you directly contribute to a better future for children in Thailand. We’re already thrilled with the current amount, as shown on the thermometer. Thank you for sharing and for your support!
