The Story of Wita: Will You Be Her Friend?

Updated: Nov 24

Meet Tihteerat Suksawad, better known as Wita, a cheerful 5-year-old girl. Wita was born with hydrocephalus and has coordination issues, making it difficult for her to use her legs, arms, and hands. Since 2022, she has been supported by the Thai Child Development Foundation (TCDF).

Thanks to TCDF, Wita has received a scholarship that allows her to attend the local kindergarten two days a week and receive education at the TCDF premises for another two days. In addition, she receives medical care, which includes fluid drainage and one day a week of physiotherapy. When we met her last winter, we saw a joyful girl who, despite her challenges, is able to participate in school activities.

Would you like to support Wita and other Thai children like her? By sponsoring a kilometer, you become a friend of Wita and help her, and many others, achieve their dreams.

Media Attention: Bike4Kids in the Spotlight

The Bike4Kids campaign continues to gain popularity, with increasing media attention. Our story about the bike tour through Asia and the fundraising for children like Wita has been featured in three regional newspapers in recent weeks: Nieuwsblad Edam-Volendam, Nivo, and NH Dagblad. These articles, accompanied by beautiful photos, have helped us spread our message widely. It’s wonderful to see how many people are now aware of our mission and are following us through the site and weekly blog.

Dries recently gave an interview to the local newspaper ‘Contact’ in the Vorden region, which will be published soon.

The Bike4Kids story has even reached the Thai media and was shared on the website ollekebolleke.info.

Furthermore, we gave an interview this week to regional television, which will be aired tonight. The interview will also be available on YouTube, so we can share it with you. Mieke and I will be live on Radio Noord-Holland next Thursday, August 22, from 13:00 to 13:30, in the program “June Tot Twee” with June Hoogcarspel.

Bike4Kids is getting more and more attention, which gives us hope for the future. We believe this is just the beginning of something great.

Coming Week: Highlights

  • Tonight (August 18) from 18:00, every hour and half-hour in the news broadcast of TV Noord-Holland.

  • Thursday afternoon, August 22 from 13:00 to 13:30, live interview on Radio NH in the program “June Tot Twee” with June Hoogcarspel.

  • Saturday, August 24, Bike4Kids will have its own stand at the Waterdag in Edam. You can find us in the center in front of the Musicedam music store. Will you drop by?

Call to Action: Help Us Spread the Word!

Despite the wonderful media attention, it’s important to keep sharing the Bike4Kids story. Do you know people in the media world or have contacts who can help us spread this message further? We’d love to hear from you! Any help is welcome to bring our story to a broader audience. Thank you in advance!

Preparations and Sponsorship: Together for a Better Future

With nine weeks to go until my departure to Hanoi, I’ve already covered 5,600 training kilometers. By sponsoring €5 per kilometer, you directly contribute to a better future for children in Thailand. Together, we can make a world of difference, kilometer by kilometer.

Next week, I’ll share more about exploring Laos by bike and will highlight Bernadette Speet’s solo bike trip through this unique country in 2001. Thank you for your support and involvement in this special journey!

PS: Sharing this blog is greatly appreciated.
